DC SCORES! at the Corcoran
I had the pleasure of attending DC SCORES’ 2nd annual Inspired Art Gala fundraising event at the Corcoran last week, and it was as heartwarming as it was entertaining.
The Gala included a silent auction where guests bid on artwork created by local professionals. Each piece of art was created with the inspiration of original poems written by DC SCORES’ youth poets. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails during the reception, including kid-friendly nibbles with a grown-up twist, like crab cake sandwiches, gourmet hot dogs, and sliders, in addition to a selection of wine and beer. Following the reception, guests were ushered from the opening space to the auditorium for performances by DC SCORES’ poets, in addition to a performance by 2011 Grammy nominated artist Carolyn Malachi.
The entire event was extremely successful, grossing $105,950 and netting $70,000. Everyone had a great time, from even the youngest an most fidgety school children to their proud parents and grandparents who were there to show support for their burgeoning artists.
