15th Annual LULAC National Gala
Washingtonians gathered Tuesday in their finest black tie to celebrate the 15th year of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)’s 15th Annual National Legislative Awards Gala.
The evening kicked off with a swanky reception at the Hyatt Regency on The Hill, with guests swilling fine wines and microbrews and waiters passing hors d’oeuvres. At this year’s Awards Gala, a Legislative Award was presented to the Honorable Richard Durbin, Assistant Majority Leader, who accepted his award during the pre-dinner reception. Additionally, Honorable Jorge A. Santini Padilla, Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico was also awarded with this prestigious accolade. The Presidential Award was later presented to Joaquin Avila, Esq., Director of the National Voting Rights Advocacy Initiative at Seattle University School of Law.
The sumptuous dinner included sea bass and tenderloin, which guests enjoyed during a dinner program that described the strides that LULAC has made in the last year. The Mission of the League of United Latin American Citizens is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States.
After the program ended, guests mingled with one another, enjoying the luxurious space of one of the District’s largest ballrooms. The evening concluded with a scrumptious dessert and an uplifting message from LULAC for the upcoming election year and keeping America a destination for freedom and equality.
