Intern Hilary: F4P First-timer
On Saturday I had the pleasure of attending Fashion for Paws benefiting the Washington Humane Society. The National Building Museum was transformed into a dazzling event space to accommodate a runway for the participants and their pups. While I was of course excited to attend and watch the show, I realized that the event was much different from what I had expected.
In my mind, the event would have been something like this; walk in, immediately find pen of puppies, climb into said pen, play with puppies for duration of the event. The only puppies in attendance were those on the runway, which were apparently off-limits to me, and a single furry representative of the Washington Humane Society named Jorge. Obviously as soon as I saw Jorge, I latched onto him, decided he was mine, and imagined taking him for walks in Georgetown while brunchers cooed over his adorableness. All of my dreams about my future with Jorge were smashed when Marie Osmond (and her terrifying face) took the stage to announce that she was adopting “George” (WTF, Marie, his name is JORGE) and that she couldn’t wait to take him home.
At this point, I was staring daggers at Marie Osmond and decided that she was the ultimate slorax. I wanted to begin a whole boycott of all things Osmond when I remembered that I’ve never cared about her or her ability to steal puppies at fundraisers from deserving people who don’t have jobs and still live at home with their parents. Oh, not me, but others who fit that description (me).
Overall, I loved supporting the participants and think very highly of the cause. Maybe next year there will be more puppies.
