Late Night LaLa: SafeSax, as seen on the green line

Don’t ask why I was on the green line, but I was recently taken aback by the girl next to me and her not-so-subtle way of letting the world know she is getting freaky by carrying a SafeSax bag. We all know how classy see through bags are, but this takes it to a whole new level by providing separate pouches for condoms to be displayed. SafeSax carries various sizes and colors in the classic tote as well as wallets, travel zip cases, and smaller bags as seen on www.safesax.com. A portion of the sales go to non-profit organizations in the battle against AIDS.

Just Jen: The Salahis attempting to stay relevant…

Ugh. Just when I thought these clowns were gone they come back. Thank heavens they will be on Real Housewives of DC and I can watch them un-impress me even further. You might know Michaele and Tareq Salahi as the, “White House Crashers” but I just know them as the weirdos that facebook friended me and continually ask me to become a “fan” of them. (After 24 attempts, not gonna happen. Leave me alone already!) As revealed to the Associated Press in an interview, Michaele claims that she will auction off her “famous” sari that she wore while crashing the White House state dinner this past November. I know that many of you are restraining yourselves from going to ebay right now, but you will have to wait until this White House controversy is actually aired on the show for the auction to begin.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the Haiti earthquake fund and several unnamed multiple sclerosis charities.

According to Bravo, “Much of the first episode features the other four housewives criticizing Salahi behind her back for being too skinny and allegedly not paying her bills.” Can’t wait!

Just Jen: I’d like a salad, condom on the side. Kthanks.

With DC having the nation’s highest HIV rate (an estimated 3% of the city’s population over 12 is infected with HIV or AIDS) several community groups are taking action to fight the spread of the disease. The campaign slogan is:”DC’s Doin’ It!” an attempt to use “sex appeal to sell safe sex.” Genius.

According to the Associated Press, these groups have received a $500,000 grant from the MAC AIDS fund to pass out  female condoms at “instruction sessions” in select beauty salons, restaurants, and churches. While female condoms have been around since 1993, a reported 1% has actually tried them. They are now being sold in DC CVS stores making Washington  the only place in the country where female condoms can be purchased outside a health clinic, or through community groups.

Wait a minute…. these are being passed out where? So I can pick up one of these bizarre sock-like looking things at the Sunday church meet and greet? Is my favorite Olive Garden replacing their after-dinner mints with these things? Gee, I sure hope so!

What do these “instruction sessions” entail? Just ask DC-area condom enthusiast Charlene Cotton (job title– condom demonstrator–no joke) who aims to help women become more familiar with the female condom. Well thank God, because I was so worried that men and women wouldn’t know what the hell this was, thereby misusing it and further increasing the HIV/AIDS rate. “She demonstrates how to insert the condom and has people feel and hold it. She gives each woman three and does her demonstration for men, too.” I have two concerns here: 1) Demonstration?  2) Wait a minute, is this really being done at a church? Why Charlene, why?!

Sasha Fierce enjoys a $10 salad

Because nothing says “in touch with the American public” like dseigner salads, Sasha Obama had a lunch date with her grandmother in Chinatown. The two enjoyed artisan salads at Chop’t, where Sasha loaded her salad with salad with bacon and cream-based dressings and commented, “Thank goodness this tastes better than mommy’s miraculous veggie garden that grows vegetables in two weeks and is completely authentic.”
