Fashion Fights Poverty Micro=Major Campaign

Hope you will join us for the launch of this remarkable campaign, benefiting the students of Woodrow Wilson High SchoolThursday, February 25th 7pm – 10pm at L2 Lounge, 3315 Caddy’s Alley NW (Georgetown)Fashion Fights Poverty (FFP) raise funds for the community to support innovative programs and initiatives which display the powerful impact that fashion and artisans can have on alleviating poverty.  Through the Micro = Major Campaign, FFP’s goal is to show that “a million small donations make a big change.”

This fund raising campaign will provide sustainable fabric, school supplies, and curricular support to students for the Clothing and Textile Program at Woodrow Wilson High School. Woodrow Wilson High School Clothing and Textile Program (CTP), began in the 1930s as part of the Home Economic and Arts curriculum. The program has evolved over the years and typically includes up to 225 students, 75% of the school’s total enrollment. Providing $5,000 worth of school supplies, materials (including fabric, notions, scissors, among other materials), and curriculum support (including dress forms and other props).

Fashion Fights Poverty 2009

THe annual Fashion Fights Poverty fashion show and philanthropy event took place Friday at the prestigious Mayflower Hotel, and it lived up to all its media firestorm preceding this incredible event.

Model-activist and host of the Discovery Network’s Planet Green Summer Rayne Oakes, and WTTG Fox 5 News Anchor Will Thomas hosted the 5th Annual Benefit.  The benefit raised awareness about social responsibility, support projects that create income-generating and micro-financing opportunities for artisans in developing countries, as well as educate local youth –specifically District of Columbia Public School’s Woodrow Wilson High School Clothing and Textile Program.

FFP continues to promote its Dress Responsibly campaign, which encourages consumers to select eco-friendly and ethical fashions and products.

Fashion Fights Poverty Celebrates 5 Years by Rejuvenating and Reinforcing Its Purpose

WASHINGTON, DC- Model-activist and host of the Discovery Network’s Planet Green Summer Rayne Oakes, and WTTG Fox 5 News Anchor Will Thomas host Fashion Fights Poverty’s 5th Annual Benefit on Friday September 25, 2009 at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. The benefit, which is one of DC’s leading fashion fundraisers, will raise awareness about social responsibility, support projects that create income-generating and micro-financing opportunities for artisans in developing countries, as well as funds for local youth programs– specifically District of Columbia Public School’s Woodrow Wilson High School Clothing and Textile Program, DCPS’s only clothing and textile program. Students in the WWHS Clothing & Textile Program will be backstage getting hands on experience, learning all aspects of fashion production and design. FFP continues to promote its “Dress Responsibly” campaign, which encourages consumers to select eco-friendly and ethical fashions and products.

WHY:             The always-anticipated fashion fundraiser continues to exceed standards of excellence set by the previous year. FFP aims to push the envelope each year by introducing some of the most interesting and eclectic eco-sustainable fashions designs and products. FFP’s climactic finale of its year-long endeavor to alleviate poverty by showcasing eco-friendly and ethical fashion designs during the benefit fashion show.
