PETA still as classy as ever

http://ironmill.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/petabull.jpg

When Bristol Palin appears on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” the Tuesday after July 4th, you’ll get a little treat from PETA.

People for the Eating of Tasty Animals is sponsoring an ad mocking Bristol’s teen pregnancy:

Two parents sit down to talk to their daughter.

The father says, “Honey we need to talk.”

“About sex,” adds the mother.

“We think you should be having it sweetie,” says the dad. “Get out there and nail everything you can. … You should pop out all the kids you want. We can leave them in a shelter, dump them in the street, whatever!”

Almost as tasteful as my chocolate mink stole. Almost.

Figure skater received threats over fur outfits

Johnny Weir

The Winter Olympics are having a rough go this year up in Canada. First there was the tragic luger death, and now US figure skater Johnny Weir has received threats for his fur-trimmed costumes.

“All these crazy fur people. Security-wise, to stay in a hotel would be very difficult. There have been threats against me. I didn’t want to get hurt,” said Weir, who has been on the receiving end of criticism and outrage from animal rights activists.

Weir faced anti-fur anger during a qualifying tournament wherein he was wearing white fox fur. After that event, he said he would change to faux fur, but had since changed his mind and is again wearing genuine fur.

Weir added: “It was not because I was pressured to change it, but because I don’t like faux fur… I didn’t change the costume, I’m just switching back to another costume.”

Michelle Obama: “I’d rather be a socialist than wear fur”

The FLOTUS is just another celebrity to sign on to PETA’s no-fur campaign, joining ranks with other attention-hungry animal rights activists that believe in the sanctity of animal life above that of an unborn fetus. Makes sense.

Newsflash, First Lady: those leather gloves and a bunch of that other hideous leather crap you wear is just the fur coat of a less fuzzy animal. Or are cows allowed to be furdered because they lead to global warming?

PETA enthusiasts still using animal rights as an excuse to get naked

Christian Serratos of Twilight fame recently unveiled a not-so-PG ad she did for PETA’s campaign against fur. The naked starlet showed up in Georgetown during Saturday’s snow storm to launch her ad.

Unfortunately, Serratos didn’t take into consideration the outrageously attention-hungry people of PETA, and was completely upstaged by Michelle Cho, another naked PETA person, who actually should have been arrested for indecent exposure. Cho showed up in nothing but a thong, proudly showing off just how important it is that animals be allowed to keep their fur just so she can run around in freezing weather while basically naked.

Naomi Campbell to cause fur-y with new spread

NAOMI CAMPBELL

Supermodel/BAMF Naomi Campbell is in the current V magazine this month in an editorial that will definitely make animal lovers angry. The fur-laden Brit recently signed with luxury furrier Dennis Basso, whose exquisite creations can cost up to $300,000.

 NAOMI CAMPBELL

The model was shot by part-human, part-droid iconic fashion designer (and, apparently, dabbling photographer) Karl Lagerfield in a spread that involves all of fashion’s top houses: Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent , Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, and Marc Jacobs are draped, wrapped, and buttoned up on this runway diva.

NAOMI CAMPBELL

The shoot was performed in Moscow, where the model looked quite cozy in sumptuous floor length and longer furs. She was also wearing some pretty interesting headwear that is sure to annoy Intern Hilary. Other trends in the vanguard of Ms. Campbell’s shoot? Liquid leggings, jeweled socks, pantaloons, and plenty of burgundy. I would wear every single thing in this spread.

Naomi Campbell

Naomi has worn plenty of fur in her life, which seems rather antithetical to her famous PETA ad, where she and four other supermodels proudly proclaim that they will never wear fur. She isn’t the first person to flip-flop on her fur stance, and she probably won’t be the last.

Kourtney Kardashian: “I’d rather have an abortion than wear fur” (okay not really, but…)

Kourtney2

I imagine Kourtney Kardashian’s sisters have mixed feelings about her “this is not a publicity stunt but my show is coming out soon and I forgot to take the pill” pregnancy. On “Keeping up with the Kardashians,” Scott Disik, the baby daddy, is painted as a philandering D-bag, and I’m really not on board with his decision to wear man jewelry. They broke up briefly, but it appears that they reconciled their differences.

Apparently the surprise pregnancy really freaked out Kourtney (obviously), and she seriously considered getting an abortion. She never considered adoption, and decided that, as a 30 year old woman, she had the wherewithal to keep the baby, saying, “For me, all the reasons why I wouldn’t keep the baby were so selfish… it’s not like I’m 16. I’m 30 years old, I make my own money, I support myself, I can afford to have a baby. And I’m with someone who I love.”

It seems her logic is that abortions are a much more viable option for anyone who does not fit those age-based, economic, and relationship status reasons.

Interestingly, big sis Khloe Kardashian recently posed nude for PETA. Critics blasted her as a hypocrite, as she was big into the skinned-animal trend in previous years. Reformed Khloe said education opened her eyes to the practice of fur harvesting. Kim and Kourtney eventually followed suit when pressured from Khloe, and cited reasons to ditch their fur fixes as the killing of animals is wrong.

You can stand wherever you want to on these issues, but to be clear, Kourtney is okay with terminating a developing baby’s life, but let’s definitely never kill any animals for versatile, stylish, fabulous, and warmth-providing fur coats?

Seems reasonable.
