During the glamour and glitz of Sunday’s Emmys, singer Jewel made time for a little light political chatter. She spoke backstage with CNN about fellow Alaskan Sarah Palin and described the former V.P. candidate as “a kind of normal everyday person.” According to Jewel, it’s the normalcy that makes Palin “so riveting.”

In 2008, the singer told the New York Daily News that she admired Palin’s attitude, saying “Alaskan women are very can-do women.” She repeated her sentiments at the Emmys: “I think a lot of Alaskan women are very can-do women. They do it for themselves. They get things done, and I really recognize that in her a lot.” So will Jewel be tuning into the reality show Palin is making for TLC? “Oh, I totally would check it out,” said the singer. “Yeah, you betcha!”

According to People Magazine, lovebirds Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have called it quits after a year of dating. The two met during the filming of their Last Song movie. Just a few months ago Miley reportedly said, “I’m not really a big lovey person. I’m not, like, mushy. [But] Liam was the first person that made me want to be in a real relationship.” No word yet on the official reason for the split, but we all know Miley can’t be tamed.

Former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino has been hospitalized in the Charlotte-area after police sources confirm that she attempted to commit suicide.

According to a report filed with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers responded on Monday at 8:43 p.m. to a suicide attempt call at a home on Bevington Place.

Police sources and sources close to the investigation say Barrino was found in the closet of the Glynmoor Lakes neighborhood home and she was taken to Mercy South Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville.

“Last night, Fantasia was hospitalized. She took an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid,” manager Brian Dickens said in a statement to WBTV.

“Her injuries are not life threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time. Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon.”

Singer Lady Gaga joined the chorus of critics blasting Arizona’s controversial new immigration law during a sold-out concert in Phoenix this weekend, the Arizona Republic reported.

“We have to be active. We have to protest.  . . . I will yell and I will scream louder,” the 24-year-old pop sensation told the sold-out audience at the US Airways Center. “I will hold you, and we will hold each other, and we will peaceably protest this state.”

So apparently the former first daughter has fratastic taste. TMZ has reported that these little gems will be on the playlist at her wedding: ABBA’s “Dancing Queen,” U2′s “Beautiful Day,” and Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough.”

Charice, the teenage Fillipina sensation that exploded with popularity after appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show, told reporters that she prepped for her Glee debut by getting botox. The 18-year-old thought it would make her look “fresh,” since pre-legal age drinking Asians age HORRIBLY.

Charice commented, “All people will be anticipating how will Charice look? Is she good enough to pit against Rachel Berry? So of course there is tremendous pressure.”

She added that she is “very proud to be an Asian, very proud to be Filipino,” interesting, given that the show focuses on high school misfits and nerds, and everyone knows the Mathletes team is never comprised completely of Asians.
