As the District gears up for yet another snow storm, take comfort in these wise words from RFK, written a little over a year ago:

In Virginia, the weather also has changed dramatically. Recently arrived residents in the northern suburbs, accustomed to today’s anemic winters, might find it astonishing to learn that there were once ski runs on Ballantrae Hill in McLean, with a rope tow and local ski club. Snow is so scarce today that most Virginia children probably don’t own a sled. But neighbors came to our home at Hickory Hill nearly every winter weekend to ride saucers and Flexible Flyers. In those days, I recall my uncle, President Kennedy, standing erect as he rode a toboggan in his top coat, never faltering until he slid into the boxwood at the bottom of the hill. Once, my father, Atty. Gen. Robert Kennedy, brought a delegation of visiting Eskimos home from the Justice Department for lunch at our house. They spent the afternoon building a great igloo in the deep snow in our backyard. My brothers and sisters played in the structure for several weeks before it began to melt. On weekend afternoons, we commonly joined hundreds of Georgetown residents for ice skating on Washington’s C&O Canal, which these days rarely freezes enough to safely skate.

Meanwhile, Exxon Mobil and its carbon cronies continue to pour money into think tanks whose purpose is to deceive the American public into believing that global warming is a fantasy.

Seems about right, given the 40 inches of snow in the last 40 days and impending two feet tonight.

Concerned everyone’s fled the city for the holiday? Whether you’re trekking in to see loved ones around the Beltway or completely friendless and sticking around the Capitol, there’s lots going on in DC during the Turkey Day weekend.

Starting on Wednesday, they will be a huge Thanksgiving Eve party at Tattoo Bar on K Street. It’s sure to be the hottest party since the pilgrims met the Indians. Vodka-copias and colonial dressing strongly encouraged.

After you eat your way into bigger pants, hit up Black Friday sales for more stuffing-friendly clothing for overeating dressing in style. Here’s a great list of places having BF sales around the area.

Then squeeze in some culture at the Ayr Hill Gallery in Vienna for an art opening for Ken Frye. You’ve got yourself a nice little Thanksgiving game plan, and it didn’t cost you a dime! (Minus the shopping splurges and incidental costs).

Maybe his star power is beginning to wear off a bit. Last night, the GOP saw some big wins, with a triple sweep of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General from the Republican party in Virginia, a gubernatorial win in New Jersey, and conservative-y Bloomberg hanging on in New York. Maine also voted down a gay marriage referendum.

White House mouthpiece Robert Gibbs told POLITICO that Obama was “not watching returns,” since avoiding the overwhelming message citizens sending to him that they don’t like him or his cockamamie policies will make them go away.

Repubs were unable to carry the 23rd District in New York, likely due to the Scozzafava/Republican party identity issues that hit the fan over the weekend.

Conservative women’s book club hosts traditional tea parties on campuses to celebrate its fifth anniversary by encouraging young women to embrace their femininity.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA—The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania recently released a groundbreaking report finding that women’s happiness has been declining since 1972. One group of young women is doing something about this—but not in typical radical feminist fashion. How? By forming book clubs and taking tea.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Network of enlightened Women (NeW) celebrated its fifth year of educating young women on college campuses by hosting Traditional Tea Parties. The goal is to encourage women to embrace their femininity and traditional values in order to ultimately reclaim their happiness.

TIME Magazine said NeW is a “…fast-growing campus alternative to the Feminist Majority and the National Organization of Women…” and “…NeW is catching on across the nation.”

“Articles in The New York Times, Huffington Post and the National Bureau of Economic Research are citing decreasing levels of female happiness,” said Holly Hall Carter, NeW Executive Director. “NeW is challenging this trend by encouraging women to embrace who they are as women instead of promoting misguided notions that sexual liberty and single-minded careerism will bring happiness.”

NeW Chapters, including those at the University of Virginia, University of Florida, Arizona State University and University of Kentucky, will celebrate NeW’s fifth birthday by hosting “A NeW Way to Take Your Tea.” NeW’s birthday will be an opportunity to reflect on the group’s positive impact on college women. NeW seeks to serve the needs of women left abandoned and confused by feminism.

NeW aims to address the issues that are important to college women by providing an alternate voice to the radical feminism taught in college classrooms. Through open discussion of books, NeW tackles the problems with feminism today, including the negative effects of the campus hookup culture, the pressures of single-minded careerism and the disregard for gender differences. NeW offers positive alternatives.
