If you have ever filled out a passport application, you know that you must list your mother and father’s name as part of the process. Due to recent state department passport changes, applicants will now file information about “Parent One” and “Parent Two” instead. I guess biological history is obsolete. As expected, there is controversy surrounding the issue from several conservative groups including Family Research Council, whereas LGBT groups are applauding the act.
Jennifer Chrisler, executive director of liberal Family Equality Council says:
“Our government needs to recognize that the family structure is changing,” Chrisler said. “The best thing that we can do is support people who are raising kids in loving, stable families.”
Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council says:
“Only in the topsy-turvy world of left-wing political correctness could it be considered an ‘improvement’ for a birth-related document to provide less information about the circumstances of that birth.”
