Grammy Award winner Roberta Flack headlines WPAS 2011 Annual Auction and Gala

Washington, D.C. Washington Performing Arts Society’s (WPAS) Annual Auction and Gala will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, 2660 Woodley Road, N.W., Washington, D.C. .

This fun-filled evening will feature outstanding music, food, auctions and live entertainment by Grammy Award-winner Roberta Flack whose legendary career has included international hits like Killing Me Softly With His Song, Tonight I Celebrate My Love, and Set the Night to Music. Her immense talent and range, from soul to folk to jazz, make her one of the great performers of our time.  Ms. Flack taught music in the D.C. public school system, making her appearance uniquely appropriate as WPAS has a long-standing, deep commitment to bringing arts into classrooms throughout the D.C. metro area.

Over 100 exquisite Live and Silent Auctions m items such as fine wines, trips, spa packages, dinner with a Washington diplomat, and much, much more will be on hand.

The Annual Gala is WPAS’s premier event, raising money for our artistic initiatives and our extensive educational programs, including the Embassy Adoption Program, Summer Performing Arts Academy, The Capitol Jazz Project, Enriching Experiences for Seniors, and the Feder Memorial String Competition. These educational and outreach initiatives would not be possible without the funds raised at the Annual Gala. In 2010 alone, WPAS served more than 100,000 youth and adults with a broad spectrum of programs that encourage creativity, talent, and appreciation for the arts.

More than 800 guests are expected to attend the gala, including members of Congress, business and community leaders and arts patrons.  Guests will enjoy a silent auction and cocktails followed by dinner, a live auction and a special performance by guest artist Grammy Award-winner Robert Flack.
