Notable Washingtonians joined all-star politicos to celebrate the awarding of the 2011 Distinguished Child Advocate Award and the Children’s Law Center’s Pro Bono Champion Award last Wednesday. Atop the Kennedy Center on its beautiful rooftop terrace, normally overworked do-gooders ranging from community therapists to pro bono lawyers to tireless social workers enjoyed midweek cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvres at one of Washington’s favorite venues.
Distinguished recipients of the evening were Senator Mary Landrieu and Jones Day, an international law firm recognized for its work in championing justice for children and families. Senator Landrieu, adding to the genuine DC charm of the evening, was over an hour late, but by no fault of hers. She was held after hours on The Hill while performing her congressional duties.
A heartwarming video featuring children who had been aided by the Children’s Law Center was also a part of the evening’s festivities. Both touching and eye-opening, the film clip encouraged guests to continue their hard work in the crusade to put children first.
A live band kept guests late into the evening, swilling cocktails from the bar and noshing on the savory dinner buffet that included delicious late-summer vegetables and decadent salmon.
