Free samples and fashion tips abounded at Saks Fifth Avenue’s fall beauty preview, held last Thursday at the store’s swanky Chevy Chase location. “2011: A Face Odyssey” featured products from well-known brands such as Lancôme, Chanel, Guerlain and La Mer, and guests were encouraged to try just about anything they wanted.
Each company had a knowledgeable rep to describe the ins and outs of its beauty line. Jennifer Smith, the La Mer specialist, cheerfully explained the entertaining, if somewhat fantastical, story behind the skincare brand’s healing powers – it involves a NASA scientist, fishermen and kelp. She then walked us through La Mer’s many creams, gels and lotions, providing details and samples along the way.
Lancôme’s rep, Mariana Popa, helped us find the perfect shade of the new Teint Miracle foundation, and gave us makeovers with it. Although it certainly helped that an expert applied it, the foundation gives lightweight, long lasting coverage and will probably be my next big beauty purchase when the sample runs out.
Georgia Marmaras, gave us information on Chanel’s new product highlights, as well as a preview of the newest N° 19 fragrance, a bold floral scent that should be available in early October. Guerlain’s specialist, Cristina Edwards, also made sure to stop by and hand us a generous bag full of samples.
Guests received silver, green or purple metallic tote bags full of – you guessed it – more samples from companies like Keihl’s, Elie Saab and Clinique. I haven’t felt this pretty in a while.
