CONGRESSIONAL COALITION RECOGNIZES ACTRESS NIA VARDALOS, NFL LINEBACKER SCOTT FUJITA, AND WEDNESDAY’S CHILD AS “NATIONAL ANGELS IN ADOPTION™”

Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 5

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) presents the 13th annual Angels in Adoption™ Gala on Wednesday, Oct. 5 in Washington, D.C., hosted by Fox News’ Laura Ingraham. The 2011 National Angels in Adoption™ honorees are Academy Award Nominated Actress and Screenwriter Nia Vardalos, NFL Linebacker Scott Fujita, Freddie Mac Foundation’s Wednesday’s Child program. These celebrities will join 140 everyday heroes selected by Members of Congress as Angels in Adoption™ for their work on behalf of children in need of families. WHO:

  • ·        Nia Vardalos: Academy Award Nominated Actor and Screenwriter, and foster adoptive mother
  • ·        Scott Fujita: NFL Linebacker for the Cleveland Browns, former Superbowl Champion, and adoptee
  • ·        Laura Ingraham: Best-selling author, talk radio host, Fox News contributor, and adoptive mother
    • ·        Anchors of Freddie Mac Foundation’s Wednesday’s Child, an Emmy-nominated weekly television program that promotes foster care adoption: Barbara Harrison (DC NBC4); Christine Devine (LA FOX11); Vai Sikahema (Philadelphia NBC10); and Amanda Davis (Atlanta FOX5)
  • ·        140 Angels in Adoption awarded by Congress for their work in foster care and adoption

 

WHAT:

CCAI is presenting awards to national celebrities and individuals throughout the country who are devoted to raising awareness about the 408,000 children in foster care and the 163 million orphans around the world.

1:30–2 p.m.                       CAPITOL HILL PHOTO OPPORTUNITY (SENATE): Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La. And Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla. will present awards to “Angel” families throughout the country.
