Appropriately named “Light Their Future,” the Sahasra Deepika Foundation for Education held its second annual gala at the beautiful J.W. Marriott last Thursday. Beginning with an opening reception, guests mingled in the historic hotel’s atrium meeting other party attendees ranging from education advocates, honorees, sponsors, and volunteers.
Kicking off the dinner portion of the event were the lively dancers of Rhythmaya Dance Company. Performance was a major theme of the evening, with guests speakers including highly educated professionals like Shawn Hardnett and Dr. T.V. Ramakrishna and his wife, Vijaya L Ramakrishna, and even a student speaker, Leslie Marks from Dominion High School. Each speaker delivered an inspiring speech, detailing personal experiences of education and, for some, challenges faced in their journey of pursuing intellectualism.
The Sahasra Deepika Foundation for Education is “dedicated to providing impoverished children opportunity and hope through education.” The event served as a fundraiser for the non-profit, which focuses its efforts in Bangalore, India. Silent and live auctions took place to help raise resources for the schools, homes, and other support measures for Sahasra Deepika.
Guests enjoyed an exquisite Indian food buffet during the program, which paired well with the Southeast Asian-influenced performances and dress of many of the event’s attendees. The exotic aesthetic was the perfect complement to the worthy cause of Sahasra Deepika and its successful annual event.
