WASHINGTON, D.C. – Everybody Wins! DC (EW!DC) is honored to announce that Co-founder and Managing Director of The Carlyle Group David Rubenstein, is slated to deliver the keynote address at our 17th Annual Gala Celebration and CNN White House Correspondent, Brianna Keilar, will serve as the emcee. The gala is scheduled for March 13, 2012 at The Capital Hilton, 16 & K Streets, NW from5:30p.m. to 9p.m
Rubenstein, a Baltimore native, co-founded The Carlyle Group, a global alternative asset-manager, in 1987. The philanthropist signed The Giving Pledge, a campaign that encourages the wealthiest Americans to donate the majority of their money to charitable causes. Rubenstein supports a range of causes and recently donated $7.5 million toward the repair of the Washington Monument.
Keilar, CNN’s award-winning White House correspondent, is a long-time supporter of EW!DC and has served as the honorary emcee for the 2011 Gala Celebration and past signature golf events. She furthermore volunteers as a Reading Mentor in EW!DC’s Power Lunch program at Marie Reed Educational Center.
EW!DC is the largest children’s literacy and mentoring organization in the Washington Metropolitan Area. The “Open books. Open doors” themed gala will celebrate our children, mentors, community leaders and corporate partners through an exciting evening of notable speakers, student performances, awards, andlive and silent auctions.
Event highlights include: Presentation of the Corporate Leadership Awards by Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), who volunteers his time as a Reading Mentor in the Power Lunch program. The District of Columbia Public Schools Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Carey Wright, will announce the Mentor of the Year recipient and The Washington Post mascot, Ned the Newshound, and The Cat in the Hatcourtesy of PBS KIDS, will both be in attendance to mingle with guests.
Hundreds of attendees will participate in a fun-filled live and silent auction, which will feature items such as: Lunch with Senator Harkin, travel packages to New York (with a stay at the luxury Waldorf Astoria) and St. Lucia, a Washington Capitals autographed team jersey, theatre tickets, and much more!

The mission of EW!DC is to pair students with Reading Mentors to instill a love of reading and learning and foster a sense of self-esteem. During the 2011-2012 school year, EW!DC will serve more than 4,000 students in 38 Title 1 public elementary schools through three signature mentoring and literacy programs.
