José Andrés’ and his team, at the award-winning mezze restaurant Zaytinya, led by Head Chef Michael Costa, announce a special two-week promotion celebrating the grape, an iconic ingredient of Mediterranean cuisine. The Grape Festival, being held from September 3rd – 16th, is designed to highlight the fruit’s endless variations with grape-inspired dishes and cocktails through exciting events and menu specials priced between $8.50 and $18. Menu highlights below.
Guests are invited to enjoy two evenings of complimentary wine tastings with Country Vinter (www.countryvinter) on Tuesday, September 4th, and Destination Cellars on Tuesday, September 11th, from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Destination Cellars will feature three wines which will be available as a Zaytinya Wine box collection for $250.00 on their website (www.destinationcellars.com).
Zaytinya will offer half pours of wines by the glass, giving guests a great opportunity to explore the restaurant’s extensive wine list. On Friday, September 7th and Saturday, September 8th, guests will have the unique opportunity to order two exceptional wines, especially chosen by ThinkFoodGroup’s Wine Director, Lucas Paya. These wines, normally offered by the bottle only, will be available by the glass at a special price. The white wine, Sigalas Assyrtiko, will be offered for $16 per glass and $74 for the bottle; the red, Alpha Estate Xinomavro, will be available for $21 a glass and $93 for the bottle. Throughout the festivities, cocktail fans can also look forward to a new libation, Ampelos, meaning “grape vine” in Greek. This special drink combines gin, fresh green grape and lemon juice, concord grapes and Cocchi Americano Air, and is priced at $13.00.
On Wednesday, September 12th, Zaytinya will host a five-course wine dinner featuring special dishes and perfectly paired wines from the Kir Yanni winery (www.kiryanni.gr). The dinner is priced at $85 per person (exclusive of tax and gratuity). In addition to enjoying the grape-inspired menu, guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the wines and grapes with special guests Marianna Mitsi, Oenologist, and Ioannis Tsapos, Distributer of Dionysos Wine. Space is limited. Reservations can be made with a credit card and by calling Zaytinya at 202-638-0800.
