Animal Health Institute’s 16th Annual Celebrity Pet Night on Capitol Hill Highlights
Connection between Animal Health and Public Health
(Washington, DC) September 10, 2012 – On Thursday, September 20, the Animal Health Institute (AHI) will celebrate America’s pets as the organization welcomes members of Congress and their staff to socialize with celebrity pets and colleagues alike at the 16th annual Pet Night on Capitol Hill reception.
AHI’s Pet Night is a favorite on Capitol Hill year after year. This September, the event will featurethe adorable Jack Russell Terrier, Uggie who starred in “The Artist” and “Buttercup” the cat from the hit novel and movie “The Hunger Games.” Members of the media are also invited to an exclusive meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with the animals and their trainers immediately prior to the event. Pet Night also marks the culmination of this year’s Cutest Pet on Capitol Hill election. Members of Congress and Hill staffers all have an opportunity to nominate their very own furry, feathered and scaly friends, and the winning candidate will be announced Cutest Pet among the front-runners from the Dog Party, the Cat Party and the Exotic Party.
AHI represents companies that make medicines for pets and farm animals, and is the organization behind the award-winning educational campaign – Healthy People. Healthy Animals. Healthy Planet. The program was established to shed light on the nexus between human health and animal health, as many people are unaware of the health issues they can share with pets and all animals. With pets and people living in such close quarters, increased awareness of the connection between human and animal health will help improve understanding of how we can prevent disease transmission from pets and food animals.
