CHARITY IN CHOCOLATE EVENT OFFERS EXCITEMENT FOR FOODIES AND FASHIONISTAS

Top chefs will turn chocolate and sugar into fanciful costumes and accessories for a delicious fashion show

 to benefit local charity with national impact

 

Washington, D.C. (August 28, 2013) –Award-winning chefs  will unveil their mastery of cocoa and couture at the decadent Charity in Chocolate benefit event, featuring DC’s only Chocolate Fashion Show.  The proceeds from Charity in Chocolate go to The Heart of America Foundation® (HOA), a DC-based nonprofit that combines volunteer service and literacy programming to support the needs of children living in poverty in the D.C. area as well as nationwide.

 

Held at the Mandarin Oriental on September 6th, 2013, the event will feature more than 50 local chefs who will offer sweet and savory tastings. Attendees will be able to sample delicacies, enjoy an open bar before the event highlight – the Chocolate Fashion Show, where models will walk the runway in chocolate and sugar couture designed by local chefs.

 

Celebrity guest judges of the fashion show will  include WTOP’s Kristi King, Kate Michael, President of K Street Kate, Heather Roth, 2008 RAMW Pastry Chef of the Year, and Michael McCarthy, Editor-in-Chief, DC magazine.

 

This year guests can also participate in HOA’s first ever “Show Your Heart, Stock the Shelves” raffle. Raffle tickets are just $20 and can be purchased online as well as at the event. The purchase of just one ticket will provide eight books to stock the shelves of DC-area schools in need.  Exciting prize packages for the raffle include an Italian adventure in Tuscany with a day trip to La Scuola Perugina, a romantic chocolate getaway in Hershey, PA, a private dinner with Chef Victor Albisu of Del Campo and Taco Bamba, a 2-night Las Vegas stay in Cesar’s Palace Hotel and Casino, and many more incredible opportunities.

 

Among the other excitement of the evening, several individuals who are making a difference both in D.C. and nationwide will be recognized. The Hero of the Heart Award will be presented to an individual whose charity work has made a difference in the DC community, and the Principal of the Year Award will be awarded to a principal from the DC Public Schools who goes above and beyond in their school community.

 

Both tickets to Charity in Chocolate and the raffle can be purchased online at charityinchocolate.org. General admission tickets are $110 and VIP tickets are $250.
