Meat Week’s Second Annual Barbecue Food Truck Face-Off

Enjoy the best barbecue in the District, as five of the area’s most popular barbecue food trucks battle for the title of Food Truck Face-Off Grand Champion. You’ll get to taste even more samples this year (15 in total) — and be voting for all your favorites in the People’s Choice categories of barbecue beef, barbecue pork, and side dish.

While sipping your beer, take in butchering demos from Wagshal’s, barbecue rub samplings from Dizzy Pig, a sauces demo from Pork Barrel BBQ, barbecue knife skills from Aporkalypse Now, and fuel option presentations from Degüello BBQ.

And, new this year, is a celebrity judging panel including Jim Shahin, Washington Post Smoke Signals barbecue columnist, and Tim Carman, Washington Post food reporter and critic.

Tickets: $49 for admission for one, including:

• Barbecue demos for butchering, sauces, rubs, fueling, and knife skills

2014 NCC Chinese New Year Celebration

The National Children’s Center (NCC) is ringing in 2014 with their 3rd Annual Chinese New Year celebration–raising funds for the essential services and programs that NCC provides to the developmental disabilities community in the Washington metropolitan area.

The evening will include themed hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment, Chinese dragon dancers, open bar, valet parking and much more.

Arts for Autism Gala & Runway Show 2014

The Autism Society of Northern Virginia  will hold its annual Arts for Autism Gala on Saturday February 1, 2014 at the Tower Club, 8000 Towers Crescent Drive, #1700, Vienna, VA 22181.

Festivities include a reception, dinner and silent auction starting at 6:30pm, a talent showcase by people in the autism community starting at 8pm, and a New York-style fashion show starting at 8:30pm.

Vinoteca’s All-Night Super Bowl Happy Hour

Popular neighborhood spot Vinoteca hosts an All Night Super Bowl Happy Hour and viewing party on Sunday, February 2 beginning at 5 p.m. The bar and restaurant will serve 15 quality wines at $5/glass, and feature specials on small plates like their famous Pan Con Tomate-tomato and garlic-rubbed toasted bread topped with Chorizo de Revilla and manchego ($7) and Mushroom Crostini with ricotta and caramelized onions ($7).

Jack Rose’s “Eat for Free, and Drink for Almost Free” Bowl Party

Jack Rose Dining Saloon in Adams Morgan is celebrating the Super “Chili” Bowl with its annual “Eat for Free, and Drink for Almost Free” bowl party from 5:30pm-11 p.m. on February 2. Jack Rose will dole out a complimentary bowl of Chili + Corn Bread to fans, while offering some of the best drink specials in the area with $5 Punch, Pints & Whiskey. Beer Director Nahem Simon will also offer beers from each team’s home state of Colorado and Washington. Bites like Duck Fat Fries with black truffle mayo and Sriracha ranch, and House Made Pretzels with bourbon honey butter will be offered at a 50-percent discount. Fans can watch in comfort and cheer for their team on Jack Rose’s popular heated rooftop terrace featuring three jumbo-sized flat-screen TVs all tuned in to Super Bowl XLVIII.

The Washington Humane Society’s 2014 Sugar & Champagne Affair honors our local crusaders against animal cruelty: Washington Humane Society’s Humane Law Enforcement Officers, Animal Care & Control Officers, and Humane Educators. This celebration of all things sweet, showcases the DC area’s most talented pastry chefs. Enjoy delectable confections complemented by some of the world’s finest sparkling wines. The VIP Chefs’ Tasting Room presents an exclusive savory gathering prepared by the finest chefs of the national capital region.

In addition to honoring our own, the Washington Humane Society (WHS) honors our community’s “Humane Heroes” who have had a positive impact on the lives of animals in the District and who have shown tremendous support for our programs and services. These award recipients have proven their commitment to and support of WHS and we truly appreciate their dedication to our mission.
