Washington Humane Society‘s two- and four-legged friends descended on downtown D.C. Wednesday night for the organization’s annual Sugar & Champagne Affair.
The event, which honors WHS’ animal control officers and other staffers, brought the city’s best dogs and desserts to the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. More than 50 restaurants crafted cocktails and bite-sized sweets for guests to enjoy.
This year’s reception featured some impressive vegan and vegetarian desserts. Sticky Fingers, the popular Columbia Heights bakery, had an awesome mudslide milkshake, made of coconut-milk ice cream, Kahlua, vodka and chocolate sauce. Makin’ Whoopie served up a Booze Hound “Woofie” Pie—chocolate espresso cake with a whiskey caramel buttercream filling. The non-vegetarian version even had bacon sprinkles.
We were really excited to try chocolates from Elizabeth’s Gone Raw. The L Street restaurant and catering company brought with them a delicious cardamon cashew cup, with cardamon-infused honey and garam masala. Our other favorite was the chia crisp, with a sweet, airy texture courtesy of white chia seeds and coconut sugar.
As usual, people showed off their dogs, bid on items at the silent auction, and indulged just a little too much. Enjoy the photos below – we can’t wait for next year!
