The catwalk went to the dogs last Saturday night as the Washington Humane Society hosted its eighth annual Fashion for Paws.
Held at the Omni Shoreham, the fashion show featured more than 20 District animal lovers walking their dogs down the runway. Both the two- and four-legged models were dressed to impress. Owners were outfitted by local shops, while Wagtime’s Lisa Schreiber styled the pets.
Although each owner had raised at least $5,000 for WHS—and one had raised more than $60,000 over the last few years—the pets were the stars of the show. Some didn’t quite take to being in the public eye—one Yorkshire terrier was too frightened to move and had to be carried down the runway. Others, like Lindsey Davidson’s 220-pound English Mastiff, Iggy Pup, loved the crowd just as much as the crowd loved him.
Local reporters Dr. Katy Nelson and Scott Thuman hosted the event, and they both had their dogs in the show. The Kane Show‘s Intern John also made an appearance as an honorary model, along with Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo) and Joe Johns, CNN’s senior Washington correspondent.
The event, which included multiple open bars and an impressive vegetarian spread, was staffed by WHS volunteers. The event raised more than $400,000.
