A standout event for brides-to-be every year in DC, the 2015 Engaged! Wedding Event took place Sunday at the Willard Intercontinental and St. Regis Washington. Starting in the late afternoon, brides, grooms, mothers of the brides, and bridesmaids and groomsmen gathered at two of the city’s most elegant hotels to meet vendors for every aspect of a wedding: there were DJs, caterers, wedding planners, event designers, stationery specialists, custom gift creators, and even live bands spread out across the hotel spaces for guests to peruse.
I started at the St. Regis, where guests were asked to check-in, because a particularly high-security guest–Benjamin Netanyahu–was staying at the InterContinental, making access a bit tricky. Not to worry, though; guests were greeted with a goodie bag full of swag as they toured the ballroom and tented outdoor space of the St. Regis.
Notable vendors included SweetWhistle, which specializes in event favors like hotel welcome boxes and bridesmaids gifts, and Thornwillow, a luxury publishing company creating elegant engraved cards and speciality printed items. Jamie Peterson of Event Painter Live was also at the venue, creating a live painting of the scene unfolding in the ballroom. Strawberry Milk Events created a Marie Antoinette-inspired seating space, featuring pastel blue, pink, and white French decor and bon bons, while Entertainment Exchange artists sang pop tunes on stage. Guests enjoyed catering from both the St. Regis hotel chefs, which included in-house wedding cake makers, as well alternative desserts like Astro Doughnuts.
Hopping on the shuttle, we headed over to The Willard Intercontinental to see even more wedding vendors in the hotel’s dramatic, high-ceiling rooms. We enjoyed treats from the hotel caterers, which included a sushi station as well as more standard American dinner fare. Also lining the hallways were Spagnvola Chocolatiers, truly artisanal chocolate makers and growers who create custom truffles and treats for events.
The main ballroom featured multiple seated dinner tablescapes. HJ Planners also decorated a portion of the ballroom, and President Heather Sala was present to answer questions from the hundreds of bridal guests trickling in throughout the afternoon. Jo Malone specialists were on site to help brides pick out their wedding day fragrances, along with Bloomingdale’s The Registry representatives who were next door to assist with registry questions like timelines, suggestions, and variety. Marcela Urioste of Style Salon provided palette recommendations, as well.
