I headed to Barcelona to ring in 2016, and check out the Accor Hotels’ Pullman Barcelona Skipper. Nestled by the sea along Playa de Barceloneta, the Pullman serves as both a luxurious hotel for tourists and swanky local watering hole for Barcelonans.
Like all five-star hotels, the Pullman has a subtle, signature fragrance that perfumes every inch of the property: rich in lavender, spicy citruses, and a touch of mint compliment a musky base with a hint of tobacco, it’s an unmistakable, yet inconspicuous fragrance. Guests are greeted personally by attendants as they enter the lobby, which was decorated for Christmas during my stay. As a traveler, the Pullman provides an unobtrusive, non-fussy approach to luxury accommodations.
There are several kinds of rooms in the hotel, which feature city, garden, or sea views. The Classic, Superior, Deluxe, and Junior Suite rooms are all styled in a contemporary design with the usual full furnishings and air conditioning, and toiletries are from C.O. Bigelow. In all, there are 241 rooms and 10 suites. The hotel is frequently at capacity, as it was during this New Year’s holiday.
As far as amenities, the Pullman offers two pools for guests to enjoy the sun, surf (the rooftop boasts amazing views of the Mediterranean), or socializing. While the rooftop ATIC pool is reserved specifically for guests during the day, the ground-level pool is set amid sumptuous gardens featuring ergonomic hammocks.
The Blend Lounge & Bar at entry level is an indoor and outdoor gathering place for tourists and locals alike. Serving typical Spanish taps and a range of dishes for sharing, this cocktail lounge serves as the perfect start, focus, or end of an evening out.
For corporations, the Pullman Barcelona Skipper’s meeting rooms can accommodate a wide array of gatherings. Like the Gaudí light well of Casa Battló, the Pullman atrium is naturally lit via a large window at the space’s ceiling that allows Barcelona’s plentiful sunlight to stream in to the convention center. The Pullman has 12 different meeting rooms spread across over 7000 square feet. Its largest room holds 530 people.
Whether you’re a first-time traveler or a born-and-raised Barcelonan, the Pullman is a fantastic destination to take in the city. Situated along the beach but still central to the Gothic Quarter, City Center, and Montjuic, it’s the perfect place to explore Barça for its natural, architectural, and cultural treasures.
