August in Europe can be sleepy at times. This presents an opportunity to thoroughly enjoy the amenities of any hotel, and the 5-star Sofitel Luxembourg Europe is the perfect place to spend your stay.
Located on the Kirchberg Plateau, just outside of Luxembourg City’s center, Sofitel Luxembourg Europe is an easy cab, bus, or even walk from the hub of the duchy’s capital city. With stunning views of the impressive Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art (MUDAM) and the city center itself, guests find refuge in this elegant hotel, with its atrium bathed in sunlight and cozy deluxe rooms.
After walking into town and completing the picturesque Wenzel Walk, my partner and I sat down to dinner at the casual yet cozy bar SixtyFour.° The cocktails were absolutely exquisite. I enjoyed the British Garden Cocktail, a refreshing and potent gin drink with bright floral notes, thanks to cloudy apple juice, fresh apples, cucumber, elderflower syrup, and fresh mint. Handcrafted and hand-delivered by the resident mixologist, it served as the perfect drink for a Sunday dinner following a week of fast-paced travel around the continent. My partner enjoyed a classic martini, which was equally expertly-crafted. We also enjoyed Princess Charlotte, made of champagne, rhubarb juice, elderflower syrup, fresh ginger.
The bar seating spreads into the atrium, making dinner a fun people-watching event. Guests arrive from all stretches of the globe, ranging from business travelers to large families on holiday and every thing in between. As my partner and I are enjoying our starters of savory risotto and a crisp shrimp salad, we are educated by our server about the traditional foods of Luxembourg.
The guinea (which is a fowl, not a rodent like the guinea pig, thank goodness) is prepared in a wine sauce and served to us as a typical dinner item. It’s like a better turkey. Served alongside root vegetables, it’s reminiscent of a Thanksgiving dinner but with a milder, earthier taste. We also enjoyed a tuna tartare sandwich. The desserts looked tempting, but we had no appetite remaining after such sumptuous fare.
Upon retiring our room, we discovered attendants had provided us with mineral water, chocolates, and relaxing classical music playing on the TV during turn down service. Decorated in a classic contemporary style, all rooms feature Sofitel’s ‘MyBed’ for a perfect night’s sleep. Picture windows offer guests stunning views over Luxembourg, and luxurious touches like a pillow menu, separate living areas, rain showers with Hermes amenities outfit Sofitel’s unique suites.
Guests enjoying breakfast from the hotel have a wide range of European treats awaiting them each morning. Green juices and cappuccinos are served alongside both a buffet of hot and cold items, as well as an a la carte menu of breakfast favorites and made-to-order egg dishes. With attentive and friendly staff, the Sofitel Luxembourg Europe serves as the perfect place of rest and relaxation for travelers exploring the duchy.
