RIP Judge Bork

From his obituary: Judge Robert H. Bork, one of the the greatest jurists this country has ever produced, died early this morning from heart complications in a Virginia hospital near his home. He was 84. Bork was a national celebrity. Several years ago, my wife and I visited the Borks in Maine where they had taken a summer house off Somes Sound. I cannot count the times that total strangers would approach us at a lobster shack or park asking to shake the Judge’s hand and to assure him of their admiration and support. Bernie Madoff is skipping his son's funeral

From Daily Mail: Disgraced financier Bernard Madoff will not attend his son’s funeral, it emerged yesterday. As the Madoff family was torn apart by son Mark’s suicide, his jailed father was planning to mourn his son’s passing alone in a jail cell. Madoff will stay away ‘out of consideration for his daughter-in-law’s and grandchildren’s privacy,’ his lawyer Ian Lee Sorkin said. Via The New York Post: A Virginia grandmother threw her 2½-year-old granddaughter several stories to her death from a shopping mall walkway after a family outing, police said yesterday. Carmela Dela Rosa, 50, was charged with the Friday murder of Angelyn Ogdoc at Tysons Corner Center mall in Fairfax. Investigators believe Dela Rosa threw the child over the railing, Fairfax County police said. This is sad. Carla Cohen, the co-founder of Politics & Prose, that little literary gem in Cleveland Park, died yesterday at the age of 74. She battled a rare cancer of the bile ducts, and her obit was published in the Washington Post. Carla Cohen, the co-founder of Washington literary institution Politics & Prose, died this morning. She was 74. Politics & Prose was founded 26 years ago, and was established to be a breeding ground for progressive dialogue.
